Rick Petrone

Music Department Director

Rick Petrone, Bassist, resides in Greenwich, Connecticut. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Berklee College of Music.

Rick was a featured soloist with Maynard Ferguson's Big Band and can be heard on "Chameleon" and "Live at Jimmy's" and seen on the DVD “At The Top”. He also performed with Houston Person & Etta Jones, Richie Cole, John Scofield, Larry Willis, Roy Hargrove, Roberta Gambarini, Giacomo Gates, Don Friedman and currently with Ralph Lamma's Quartet.

Rick can also be heard on two albums with New York Mary, one with Marlene Ver Planck, two with Richie Hart, one with Giacomo Gates and one with Houston Person.

His recent efforts include recordings with the late Steve Marcus, Carmen Leggio and “Energy Fields” and “The Audience” with the Ralph LaLama Quartet.

Rick has written one book,' A Modern Method for Jazz-Rock Bass Guitar', numerous record reviews for national magazines like "Coda", Guitar Player, The Gavin Report, and dozens of album and CD liner notes.

As a Broadcaster, he was program director of the 24-hour Jazz station in CT WJAZ from 1978-1990He can still be heard on WPKN 89.5 or WPKN.org every Monday from 1-4pm.
Rick taught at the Manhattan School of Music Summer Camp, The Quinnipiac Summer Jazz Program, and The Ramapo College Summer Camp. Rick is also the co-founder of “Summer Jazz Stamford”, a summer jazz camp in Stamford, Connecticut and continues to work with middle and high school students as a jazz combo instructor at the Italian Center, Stamford throughout the school year. Rick is also the Bass Adjudicator for the Connecticut Regional and All-State auditions.
